Earlier this year, the new Studio Ghibli released their newest animated film: Arrietty, which was inspired by Mary Norton’s The Borrowers. Being an avid Ghibli fan, I was happily entertained for several hours with some absolutely stunning animation, which included lots of nature shots…I love nature shots! But, unfortunately, I found that while the narrative could be read into deeply, it just wasn’t very engaging, like Hayao Miyazaki’s earlier adaptations and narratives (Howl’s Moving Castle, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away).
What did you think, lucky people who saw it ages ago because you don’t live in NZ? I think the release date for the US was about a year prior to ours!
